Abstract: The land of Khorasan is a name given to the historical Eastern region of the Iranian Plateau located between Western and Central Asia. From the historical and cultural point of view, Khorasan generally means Greater Khorasan, which includes a much wider area than Khorasan in contemporary Iran and includes Trans-Nahr and Sistan as well. What distinguishes the land of Khorasan is the expansion of science and thought into cultural and artistic dimensions in Islamic world, which increased especially in the 10th to 16th centuries. In this workshop, some of the sciences and artistic cultural manifestations of the Islamic world, which started in Khorasan and played an important role in the development of Islamic civilization, will be discussed. The main goal is to recognize and introduce some important cultural and artistic services that have been gifted to the Islamic world from Khorasan. Based on this, the question is: What has been the role of Khorasan in the development of Islamic culture and art? The workshop presents four approaches: 1-Theoretical sciences (the role of thinkers), 2-Symbology (the image of snake), 3-Visual arts (Mashhad painting school) and 4-Applied arts (Lustre altars), will be presented by four researchers from the four art universities of Iran.
